Noma Jewell Matheny of Keller, TX, faithful wife, dedicated missionary, and beloved mother,
grandmother, and great grandmother was ushered into her eternal reward on March 1, 2016. She was
preceded in death by her husband Clarence Matheny, her parents John and Noma Kemp Dreher. She is
survived by her five children, Ronnie (Debbie) Matheny of Keller, TX; Marion Matheny McNeal of Ft.
Worth, TX; Don (Amy) Matheny of Nairobi, Kenya; Bob (Mal) Matheny of Biloxi, MS; and Murphy (Twila)
Matheny of Biloxi, MS. She is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, and a host of
friends and loved ones.
Jewell married Clarence on November 18th, 1948, and during their 37 years of life together they were
involved in a variety of ministry endeavors, including pastoring, evangelism, and missions. All of her
children came to know Christ at an early age, and three are currently involved in full-time ministry as
pastors and missionaries. They traveled the southern United States with their children known as “The
Singing Matheny’s.” They moved the family to Kenya in 1968. In 1975 they returned to the US
temporarily, during which time they founded the Storehouse Church in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, now
known as River of Life Church. After the passing of her husband she returned to Kenya by herself to
continue the ministry for the next 20 years. She founded and established Clarence Matheny Ministries
Leadership Training Institute in Nairobi. She is responsible for 50 leadership conferences affecting tens
of thousands of pastors and leaders including medical and dental clinic outreaches, and the distribution
of food, clothing, mosquito nets, and vitamins. She was well known, loved, and respected by thousands
of church leaders throughout East Africa.
Celebration of Life: Jewell will be honored at a visitation held at Memorial Park Funeral Home, 8525
Mid-Cities Boulevard, North Richland Hills, TX, Saturday, March 5th from 5-7 PM and a funeral service at
River of Life Church, 6837 Hwy 98 West, Hattiesburg, MS, on Tuesday, March 8, with 10 a.m. visitation
and 11 a.m. service. Interment to follow at Roseland Park Cemetery.
